Death Switch Disclaimer

Please read this before signing up. We require explicit acceptance.

This service is automated

There is no human reviewer confirming that you have died. The trigger is the absence of your response to our check-in emails over a period you configure. Any cause for that absence — death, incapacitation, prolonged travel, an inbox you forgot, a forgotten password — will produce the same outcome: your instructions will be dispatched.

Delivery is not guaranteed

Emails can bounce, be filtered as spam, or be rejected by recipients. We make a best effort with retries, but we cannot guarantee that any instruction reaches its destination, nor that any recipient acts on it.

Your letters are encrypted in your browser

Every instruction is encrypted on your device using a key derived from a vault passphrase that we never receive. The server stores ciphertext and a one-way verifier. We cannot reset your passphrase.

Posthumous delivery: pick your trade-off

When you set your vault passphrase, you choose how letters become readable after the switch fires:

  • Server escrow (default). Your vault key is wrapped with a server-held RSA key and stored alongside your ciphertext. When the switch executes, the server unwraps it and emails the readable letters to your recipients. This means the platform is technically capable of decrypting your instructions after execution, and could be compelled to do so by a court order or subpoena. While the switch is armed, we do not decrypt.
  • Zero-knowledge. No escrow is stored. The server cannot decrypt your letters under any circumstance. Recipients will receive only the sealed envelope (ciphertext) — useful only if a trusted contact you arranged outside this service already knows your passphrase.

If you forget your passphrase

You will no longer be able to edit or read your own instructions. In zero-knowledge mode, the instructions also become permanently unrecoverable.

Not a will, not legal advice

Do not use this service to transfer property, designate guardians, or substitute for any document prepared by an attorney.

By signing up, you acknowledge:

  • You understand the service is automated and may trigger erroneously.
  • You accept that delivery is best-effort, not guaranteed.
  • You understand the posthumous-delivery trade-off you select at vault setup, including — in escrow mode — that the platform can decrypt your instructions after execution and may be compelled to do so by a legitimate authority.
  • You will not use the service to commit unlawful acts.
